SEED CLOVER BALANSA PER KG

Instore Item

An annual clover for waterlogged soils
Balansa Clover is a mid-maturing, semi-erect self-regenerating annual clover selected for its tolerance to waterlogged soils and clover scorch resistant. Although tolerant to waterlogging it has low salt tolerance. It can grow to over 80cm tall, but ends up prostrate when being grazed.

Produces clusters of small white and pink flowers

It is suited to a wide range of soils in areas where there is a minimum of 450mm annual rainfall and where clover scorch is prevalent.

Balansa Clover helps to increase the legume component of grazed pastures over the late winter and early to mid-spring periods and is particularly useful for early hay production. Balansa Clover species are generally very thick in the stem and can collapse where left for late hay.

It provides a good palatable green feed for livestock, and although quality is reduced, it can give a good summer feed to the livestock as well.

Grazing management:
Balansa Clover can persist under continuous grazing, but it is not well suited to rotational grazing systems. Balansa Clover can self- regenerate where sufficient moisture is available for seed set.

It should be lightly grazed in the 1st year, with limited grazing during flowering to allow for an adequate seed set. Plant residue should be grazed during the summer months as this encourages a breaking down of the hard seeds and will maximise re-generation.
Sown between April - June but can be sown in February under irrigation. It requires shallow sowing but may require trace elements (e.g. Cu,Mo,Zn) on infertile soils

Recommended sowing rates:

Recommended pH Rate: 4.5+
Recommended Rainfall Rate: 500mm+
Recommended Sow Rate: 1 to 4 kgs/ha
