How does it hold water?
Biogenic amorphous silica is composed of tiny fossilized radiolarian plankton that died over 125 million years ago. Its intricate honeycomb structure absorbs and releases plant available water and nutrients more efficiently than clays, so you only need to use relatively small amounts to dramatically improve soil. As little as 500 grams per sqm boosts the water and nutrient holding capacity of sandy soils without being sticky or clumping. It also improves the results of wetting agents and fertilizer by absorbing and then slowly releasing them.
Mineral Magic has a special extra benefit, it also releases plant available silicon, which strengthens plant cells and helps protect them from stresses such as baking hot summer weather, drought, and insect attacks.
How to Use
Mineral Magic is easy to hoe into existing soil, treat an entire area all at once, a little at a time or just mix into planting holes, or potting mix. Adding compost at the same time gets an even better result than adding either material alone. It is like 1 + 1 = 5.

Adding between 4% to 10% is better for large leaved plants like green leafy vegetables and soft fruiting trees such as fig and stone fruit to provide more water. They will also be more resilient to very hot weather and less troubled by pests and diseases. Seedlings will not need to be watered as frequently, and you will grow more with less water.
Native Gardens
Ideal to help get native plants established, adding water holding capacity without changing the soil structure. A few small handfuls in a planting hole will help nurture native plants and trees through their first hot summer, with far fewer losses. The larger the plant will grow, the more you should add to the planting hole area. (You cannot add too much, the ground does not become wet and soggy)
